I’ve had mixed emotions about the virtue of the Huck Finn story being included as part of school curricula. In the final analysis, I think it opens up dialog that must be had in order for us, as a society, to get to the bottom of deeply entrenched prejudices, misunderstandings and misimpressions between Blacks and Whites. A painful discourse? Yes. Necessary? Absolutely. Let Huck get it going.
